September 9: West Coast of The Americas
$150*

3 seats available

Here’s something we haven’t done before! The west coast of this continent may be the most successful group of all New World regions – for a number of different reasons. Tonight, we’ll explore the various versions of some of the most iconic wines in the world and see how they fare with Indian cuisine. A little history, a bit of philosophy, and lots of bold flavours should make this a memorable evening.

Note that because of the elevated prices of some wines in this category, this evening will have a small premium added to the cost.

October 7: Wait! What’s the Grape in This?
$135*

Sold out - waiting list

This month, for fun, we’re going to explore some well-known wines made from less well-known grapes. Many of them you will have had before and loved; some others originate from more obscure beginnings. A chance to consider the European Appellation system’s elevation of ‘place-origins’ over ‘grape types’ vs. how the emergence of wine in the New World has provided us with a different philosophy, and a whole swathe of tasty varietal stowaways!

November 4: The Lesser-Known Wines of Northern Italy
$135*

Sold out - waiting list

This evening was inspired by the enormous success of last year’s “Trans-Alpine Zipline” event, one of the most popular tastings of the season. This should be as equally fun! After the fall of Rome, the Italian peninsula reverted to a motley assortment of city-states and fiefdoms usually at war with each other, until the reunification of Italy under Garibaldi in the 1860s. This ‘forced regionality’ gave rise to a wide variety of different one-off wines being made, almost valley to valley. In the last twenty-five years, local pride and renewed interest in some of these outliers has given them a whole new profile across an amazing range of styles and flavours.

December 2: Our 2nd Annual Holiday Sparkling Wine Dinner
$180*

Sold out - waiting list

I was a bit skeptical last year when Derek suggested this dinner’s premise but it turned out to be one of our most fun and successful events. The key is to source sparklings that aren’t all just trying to imitate Champagne. Yes, there’ll be Champagne, but there will also be a number of tasty, engaging bubblies from off the beaten track. A great way to kick off the holiday season!

Note that, because of the elevated prices of some wines in this category, this evening will have a small premium added to the cost.

Please call the restaurant directly at 416-342-1906 to reserve your seats.

Please note:

• Cost is per person plus 13% tax and 18% gratuity.

• Dinner includes a four-course menu.

• Tasting approximately 6-8 different wines.

• Space is limited to 16 participants.

• Guided tasting hosted by Peter Boyd unless noted otherwise.

• Arrival time is 6:30 pm and typically finishes by 9:30pm.

• These evenings will provide each participant with somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of a bottle of wine/person.

• Please make safe arrangements for your trip home so you can join in with abandon and enjoy the evening’s conviviality.

Your Wine Dinner Host

Peter Boyd, Sommelier

Peter was first bitten by the wine bug in the early 1980s and has been pursuing it ever since. In 1986, he followed the bug to France where he traveled extensively, studying wines and vines, before settling down to live in the Southern Rhône for a year.

Asked by Derek and Harsh to host Pukka’s wine dinner events, Peter eagerly agreed because of the fascinating challenge of matching wine to this, the most complex of all cuisines.

In addition to Pukka, Peter also consults on a number of other Toronto establishments’ wine lists, and has written about food, wine and pop culture for Canadian magazines. He has taught the ISG Sommelier Diploma course in Toronto, the highest level of instruction in Canada, for the International Sommelier Guild. As well, he plays jazz/blues guitar in local clubs and sessions, and has raised two excellent children.
